General Information

New Containers - One Trip (one-tripper)

You can't get anything newer than a one tripper. These shipping containers only undergo one cargo trip before they reach their destination, mostly to make use of the space they occupy during the journey and to test their durability. They are as fresh from their manufacturer as possible. Given this, they offer the highest quality and condition the market can offer. If quality, durability, and aesthetics are first on your priority list, you will want to choose a one tripper. Other qualities you can expect your one tripper to have:

• A solid, one-color exterior with no shipping logos
• Very minimal signs of wears, if any
• A factory lock box

If you are looking to modify a shipping container for use as a residence, a one tripper is the way to go.

Used Containers - Cargo Worthy

 Typically ranging between 10 to 20 years, cargo worthy containers generally have seen their share of the maritime shipping industry. Cargo worthy refers to the certification a container receive indicating that it meets the CSC (International Convention for Safe Containers) shipping requirements for overseas shipping. Given this, you will see that your cargo worthy container will come with some variation of the following: 
• Dents, dings, and scratches
• Signs of rust on the interior and exterior
• Faded exterior paint

Given that cargo worthy containers must meet certain structural standards in order to be stacked aboard a cargo vessel, they have high structural integrity with no leaks or holes. They may be in slightly better shape than our Wind and Water Tight containers.

Wind and Water Tight

Here at SJ Portables we view Wind and Water Tight Shipping containers as unacceptable for our customers. That is why we chose to not keep in inventory.
While these containers structural integrity is ok and they do provide a waterproof and windproof interior, they just don't meet our standards compared to a one tripper or cargo worthy container.  They are quite similar to cargo worthy containers, but run you a little less since they do not need to maintain overseas shipping certifications. 
You can expect the age of your container to typically run somewhere between 10 to 20 years. Other things you can expect to see in your Wind and Water Tight container include: 
• A fair amount of wear, tear, bumps, and bruises—but no holes
• Faded paint, dents, dings, and some rust on both the interior and exterior

If you must have a more affordable container option for general storage purposes on your site let us know and we are happy to see what is available.
